“Family Focus”
What is Family Focus (Enfoque Familiar)?
Family Focus is the beginning of the fulfilment of a dream we have had for several years and part of our overall strategy to serve the evangelical churches, of Peru initially, but in time those of the whole Hispanic world. Ambitious? Maybe, but maybe not as ambitious as it seems. We firmly believe that if material is useful for us, it is most likely to be useful for others involved in similar ministries to our own, be they in another part of Peru or in Bolivia, Paraguay or even Spain or Miami. By aiming to make more widely available material we have already developed for our own use, we not only widen its usefulness but also reduce the workload on others caused by having to develop similar materials in parallel. This results in an overall increase in effectiveness. Family Focus is still a baby, but babies grow and we trust that under God in due time this one will have a mighty impact for the furtherance of the Gospel. Not because it is our ministry, but because we trust it will be used by God. We are continually looking to Him for wisdom in developing this vision and making it a reality.
It is our aim that in time Family Focus be a Peruvian organization which is self financing and self maintaining. This is already happening to a degree as materials are sold at prices which more than cover their production costs leaving capital for investment in running costs. We firmly believe in actively discouraging long term dependency on missionary finance for ongoing ministry, but rather in encouraging the full and appropriate use of the resources God has already given to His children in Peru.
An Illustration:
If you like, rather than hand out fish, figuratively speaking, Family Focus aims to supply fishing rods and instruction so that the people can help themselves to make the most of what they already have.
However, we also recognize that much capital development is simply not possible within the current economic reality. This is eloquently illustrated in SIM’s Camp La Joya project. So, carefully selected involvement in key capital projects is one way we as a mission can partner with our Peruvian brothers.
Family Focus is an official Peruvian non-profit-making organization registered in Arequipa. It has a board of directors consisting of ourselves and a number of Peruvians, Steve also being Peruvian!
As the ministry of Family Focus grows, more people will be approached to be involved in various capacities.
