32 children began this wonderful week of camp by riding on the flying
carpet! A thick rubber mat pulled (at a safe speed) behind Ted Muir's 4x4! Everyone had a great time! John Nayhua with three of the boys watching the flying carpet.

Karina and Miriam. Two of the 16 children who came from the village
of San Luis next door to the camp and from further up the valley. Each morning after breakfast the children enjoyed a Bible teaching
time consisting of songs, prayer time, the exciting story of Daniel
and a quiz. In the same building, high on the wall near the door a humming bird
had built its tiny nest around a rusty wire. Happy children hearing God's Word clearly taught.

Rosario, a long standing friend of ours, did a great job teaching. She
has a great way with the children. She did Steve's children's ministry
course several years ago. After the Bible time and a drink we all moved outside for the morning's
activities. It's amazing how much fun you can have with such simple,
low cost games. Wood blocks and a tennis ball. Ever popular sack races!

A variation on basketball. Each member of a group initialed the foot of the other members. Ducking for fruit and veg. An onion, carrots, a potato and a lemon!

Writing a Bible phrase using pebbles. Passing a small metal ring from straw to straw. A simple puzzle becomes a major challenge when you can't see a
thing! Angel is helping them out. Angel's daughter Eunice came on camp for the first time this year

Rosemary transfering small beans from one pot to another by sucking
through a straw. Daniel Suchalla, an SIM short-term missionary from Germany having
a break! (Without a Kit Kat!!) Happy children crowding round to hear the results. The swimming pool was the venue for two mornings of water based
activities. No-one escaped a good soaking. Of course it's nice and
warm here!

Most activities consisted of transfering water from the pool to
somewhere else providing the opportunity to get soaked and
to soak others on the way! Waiting for the wet sponges. She was well prepared! Bartholomew colouring his worksheet after lunch. This is a good time to talk to and get to know the children better. The
support team supervised while the counselors met together.

Katherine trusted the Lord on Wednesday night. She goes to a good
church in Arequipa, but her family don't go with her. Please pray that
she might grow in her faith and be a witness to them. Eunice's feet! Mike Hoodless (but never Hatless!!), an SIM short-term missionary
from England who lives out at the camp from Wednesday to
Monday morning. The horses are very popular, but a costly luxury. Sponsorship is
needed to enable us to continue.

One afternoon the children were led in their small groups by one
member for the long walk from the cabins back up to the retreat
house. This helps teach dependence on and trust in someone
else. A slight problem on the way! Tuesday 18th of January was a historic day! The transformer to supply
electricity to the camp was finally delivered. The saga to get power has
gone on for well over a year and is not over yet. The electricity company have dragged their feet in a most amazing
way. It seems that a bribe is wanted, which the camp obviously
will not pay.

One evening we had an oriental fancy dress meal. Nicasio brought the children from Quenco, a village in the highlands.
They have to walk for several hours to reach the main road. He was
an enthusiastic and valuable member of the support team. It is amazing how creative the children are with very little material and
time. They didn't even spill any food on the mattresses!!

Yaneth is the daughter of one of the cooks. Her father also works at
the camp. She was camp director and in March heads off to Lima for
a five year course at the Evangelical Seminary. When she finishes
she wants to work full time with children. Bessy Macotto is a representative of Christian Camping International
and it was good to have her on the camp. Christina Widman is an SIM short-term missionary from Germany who
has been working in Lima with Bill and Jean Williamson. She is in
Arequipa for some of the camping season. Cinthya is a very able
and enthusiastic counselor. Katherine is holding her camp momento. All too soon it was time for the closing meeting. The groups went
forward to receive the momentos prepared by their counselors.

This week there were five groups. Three of boys and two of girls. The counselors. From left to right: Maria, Julio, Leo, John, Raziel,
Ruben, Cinthya and Christina. Please pray for them as they serve
in their churches. The obligatory camp photo. After the closing meeting the children from the valley piled onto the
trailer for the bumpy ride home.

Unfortunately they got stuck and had to get out! The ancient tractor which came with the camp property is simply not
up to pulling it up the drive out onto the road. It does dig great holes
though! We are praying for a new tractor. Will you join us? The
driver is Martin, Yaneth's dad. For some it was just too sad to say goodbye. But Miriam (10) prayed to become a child of God down by the river on
Thursday afternoon and went home a new person. She comes to the
Wednesday children's club at the camp, but her family are not
Christians yet. Pray that she might grow and be a good testimony
to them.
