The Arequipa Bible Institute of the Evangelical Church of Peru is
located in Espíritu Santo (Holy Spirit) about 1 hours drive from
Arequipa in the hills just beyond the village of Chiguata. Most of the construction has been carried out over the last seven
years and is still in progress. The local church shares the site. This church is a good example of
co-operation between missionaries and national believers. Much of the finances have come from England, but most of the work
has been done by a dedicated congregation of local believers.

This is the main building before it was painted and while the toilets were still
provisional. Now it looks much better having been recently painted by a visiting
team from the UK Under the main meeting hall is the bulk of the student accomodation. This kitchen is used by the breakfast program which the church takes
part in, serving a nutritious breakfast to 100 children each school day.

Functionality is more important here in Peru than appearances! Most of the cooking is still done over traditional open fires. This lady is preparing food for a special event. It seems primitive, but it works!

To one side of the main building is the new administrative and
classroom block. One large classroom with other rooms above. Early construction work. The directors office is closest to us in the picture with a small
classroom next to it.

Other rooms will be built behind with a passage between. The small classroom next to the director's office. Mark Walker (Ex Latin Link missionary now in Scotland), Santos
Valero, the director, and Steve talking in the new office. The large classroom under the office.

An early photo of the bathroom, kitchen and library building. The vollyball court is a favourite area! This building really increased the effectiveness of the institute by
providing bathroom and library facilities as well as accomodation
for teachers The library still has a way to go, but books are expensive.

The computer and printer provides a valuable resource to help students
with their assignments. A view over the wall into the village of Espíritu Santo. The site of the institute is on a hill. This may in the future be the site
of an amphitheatre. Security has been much improved with the completion of the perimeter
wall.

The pavement by the main building is a regular venue for hanging out. Volleyball is regularly played in free time. Inside the main meeting room. This is used by the church as well as the institute.

It is simple but tidy. Part of an institute ceremony. One of the students at the mike. Mark Walker's service was much appreciated during several years
prior to his return to Scotland in April 2005.

Patricia, from the church in the village, was one of the first students at
the institute who is still actively involved. A group of students from the highlands above Arequipa. Students singing. A visiting team from Sheffield, England.

Mike Thompson from Sheffield, has with the support of his church been
responsible for much of the building work. It is much appreciated. Natán, in red, is the pastor of the church. The cake is for the
anniversary celebrations! Students and visitors chatting in the sun. Contrasting dress of the city and the traditional highland garb.

One group of students. Another group of students. Yet another group of students! Teaching staff.
